From retail to the driver's seat of a forklift driver

Posted on May 2, 2024

On the occasion of Forklift Driver Day, we meet Wannes, a charismatic forklift driver who has found his niche in this dynamic sector through Vivaldis. With a smile, he began his story about the transition from retail to the driver's seat of a forklift.

"After several years in retail, I was looking for a new challenge," Wannes said. "A friend of mine worked as a forklift driver and was always enthusiastic about his work. His passion caught my attention. Through Vivaldis, I got the opportunity to start at a company that offered me extensive training. Soon enough, I was operating my own forklift."

Wannes spoke very enthusiastically about his job. "The best part of my work is the physical aspect, really 'being at work'. It gives me satisfaction to make a direct contribution to the company, whether it's loading goods or organizing the warehouse. And the camaraderie here is great; we really form a close-knit team."

However, there are challenges. "The biggest challenge is the precision required, especially when working with heavy materials in sometimes tight spaces. Safety is always a priority. The pressure to work quickly and flawlessly is constantly present, but fortunately, the company I work for regularly provides safety training to keep us sharp," Wannes explained.

About the support he receives from Vivaldis, Wannes said with a warm smile: "Vivaldis is fantastic at providing support. They ensure smooth communication between me and the company where I work. If there are any problems, I can always rely on them. That brings a lot of peace of mind."

In conclusion, Wannes shared his plans for celebrating this special day. "We're organizing a small BBQ at the warehouse with the team. It's a cozy way to relax and have a drink with colleagues. Everyone is looking forward to it!"
